Women envisioned by Sabatino have generous curves, wrapped in warm sensual rich in nuance colours. Her paintings tell about bodies "Sucked into the Volcano", "Fusion" with the universe, cosmic "Vibrations", "Infinity" and display hands moving, crucified, playing piano with such a use of chromatism that explodes in pure energy or midnight blue coloured reflections - wrapping finitude. The artist, who provocatively overcomes limits, raises own body to the status of work of art, devastating-disfiguring it to complete transformation and revive by returning under discussion. New Ego shows himself in the mirror and reflects images of Himself that labels and encloses us in a vision. A Goffman-like cross-reference of mirrors offers this twisted image, fragmented of true Himself - communication is always more mediate, distorted by network, in liquid society which doesn't promote global empathy but just aggregates individuals. Body is no longer first approach to personality but it's what distracts and turns away. In the contemporary world, which doesn't love long Sartrean memory projects of life, immediate objectives are more easily, by abandoning critical thinking. Very young girls resort to cosmetic surgery sa a guru dispensing happiness and success, persons not accepting aging stretch and torture themselves to wear imposed, uncomfortable and ugly dresses because of other than Himself, Junoesque women torture themselves to slim losing femininity and sensuality. In the mass society that generates insecurity and enormously increases desires, it just has to follow stereotyped models to feel "free" - the great deception. Shapes must mean, as for Sabatino, harmony, acceptance, refusal of imitation, to find themselves in the Socratic appeal to reason, inner truth, only research able to conduct to some earthly happiness. |
